Twenty-eight members of milk cooperatives in central Switzerland found the company that will become HOCHDORF.

Milk becomes powder
HOCHDORF begins producing spray-dried milk powder, a craft it has refined ever since.

Behind every formula are nutrition and quality specialists, and more than a century of experience in turning fresh milk into powder. Each step is designed, measured and checked.
HOCHDORF's production plants are certified to FSSC 22000, an international food safety standard recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative.

Recipes are developed stage by stage to meet international standards for infant nutrition, and reviewed as science moves on.
- 02Wet processing
All ingredients are blended in liquid form into a uniform emulsion, then gently spray-dried.
- 03Checked at every step
Raw materials, the process and the finished powder are tested against strict physical, chemical and microbiological criteria.
- 04Single-can security
Every tin is inspected and sealed with minimal residual oxygen, to protect its nutrients.

Caring for what comes next.
Infant nutrition begins long before the tin: with the land, the animals and the people who look after them. In 2020, HOCHDORF set itself clear goals in three areas, nature, technology and people, to be met by 2030 at the latest.

Our three commitments
Milk and whey are the heart of every powder, so how they are produced matters as much as their quality.
- HOCHDORF's milk meets at least the Suisse Garantie standard.
- Since 2024, the milk HOCHDORF uses for baby food comes only from farms that meet every swissmilk green criterion: animal welfare, palm-oil-free feed, biodiversity and careful use of antibiotics.
- Whey comes only from Swiss cheese makers and regional milk processors.
Drying milk into powder needs temperatures above 200 °C, which solar or geothermal energy alone cannot reach. So every saving counts.
- Around 7,000 m² of solar panels on the Sulgen plant.
- Gas air heaters replaced by far more efficient steam air heaters.
- Waste heat put back to work through a steam pipeline, and energy use tracked with dedicated monitoring software.
- A new “liquid lactose” process that uses fewer resources to make baby food.
Responsibility also means looking after the people who make every tin.
- A regional employer offering work, apprenticeships and further training to more than 300 people, in many professions.
- Many colleagues spend a large part of their career at HOCHDORF.
